Functional Resume Samples

Monster

Very few people get the job they require without a resume. But writing a resume need not be difficult if you follow this functional resume sample.

Aim to make your resume brief; one page if possible.

Following this functional resume sample will tell a potential employer what you do, what you have done, who you are and what you know. The resume also needs to be interesting!

One way of approaching this is to:
  1. Make notes about yourself and your talents.
  2. Get some job descriptions for the type of work you want to do.
  3. You can then organize this information into a Work Objective and a summary of your qualifications and skills.
Your resume outline can then look like this:

Personal Data
Name, address, phone number, Email, Web page (if you have one)

Work Objective
As prepared above

Special Skills Related to Objective
Such as computer skills, languages, training etc.

Education
Details of Educational Qualifications

Work Experience
Employer, Length of Employment, Position, Achievements

Voluntary/Community Work
Organization, Length of Involvement, Role, Achievement

Activities and Interests
A brief description of your most important leisure-time activities and interests

That's all there is to it! Like most tasks, following this functional resume sample isn't too bad once you get started!

A few tips!
  • It's sometimes a good idea to write everything down quite quickly following this functional resume sample. You can always improve on what you have written later and it is easier to improve something written down than to have nothing to change!
  • Ask someone to proof read your work. They will almost certainly notice things that you have missed.
  • Your resume should be brief and well organized. Don't be afraid to re-write or cut things out.
  • Believe in yourself and and make your resume positive, enthusiastic and interesting. But be truthful too!
  • You do not need to have your references on your resume but it is a good idea to have the name, address and telephone number for two or three references ready in case you are asked for them.
Technology has changed the recruitment process. When you have written your resume, following this resume example, you might like to do a job search:
