Resume Cover Letters

A good resume cover letter is an essential part of your job application. Whilst there may be examples available that you could copy, it is much better if your resume cover letter is geared to the job that you are applying for and reflects your personality and writing style.

Here are some guidelines:

Address the letter to the right person using his or her correct title.
Concentrate on what you can do for the organization (rather than what they can do for you!).
Be brief (no more than one side of paper).
Use good quality paper, a clear font (such as Times New Roman and a font size of at least 11). Use a big envelope so that the resume and cover letter do not need to be folded.
Organize the letter carefully and re-write it several times if necessary. Your care will show through to the potential employer.

Paragraph One
State the job you are applying for | Summarize the benefits that you will bring to the job | Say what interests you about the organization and the position.

Paragraph Two
Explain the ways in which you fulfil the job description using examples if possible.

Paragraph Three
Refer to your enclosed resume | Make it clear that you would like an interview in order to tell them more about your suitability for the job | Say how best they can contact you.

That's about it. Don't be afraid to ask someone to proof read the letter for you. They may notice something that you have missed! A final tip - Be confident and believe in your talents!
